Remember What God Has Done for Us ...

Have you noticed that this time of year all the storage bins go on sale? “A new year, a new you!” is the promise that stores offer, whether you “need” new clothes, a new color palette for the home, a new eating or fitness routine, whatever the thing is, you need a fresh new start.

The bin sales are an opportunity for you to save your old things… just in case…because… “you never know!”

God lays out a reminder of His strength, His sincerity, and His sovereignty to Israel in a turbulent time for them as a nation. He reminds them that this is not the first time He has provided a fresh start, but then goes on to clue them in that it would not be the last:

“But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun!”…(Isaiah 43:18-19)

God Does New Things For Us Now, Every Day

The things He had done before weren’t bad, but there was more that He had prepared for them. Remembering what God has done for us is good, but clinging to our past can often dim our vision for the “new thing” that He is doing.

This word for fresh or new in the Hebrew is Chadash, and in the Greek it is Kainos. The Greek form of this word is used in Matthew 9:17:

“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved.”

God is doing fresh new things every day! This is the Good News we spread to others and ourselves!
